Dear Reader, In this article we are going to compare two different world's, placements and Cricket, for the sake of your understanding of what is actually meant by staying cool. Your teachers, parents and even friends could have been constantly advising you to stay cool while preparing and giving placement tests. No doubt, staying cool is better said than done. Its a free advice not followed by almost 90 percent of the youngsters.
Though I am not sure of how relevant is Cricket in general when compared to Placements, I am sure you can exploit relevance when specifically considering Dhoni, the great Indian captain, as he handles one of the most pressure filled jobs in the world.
3 Qualities You Should Learn From Dhoni :
1. Be Cool
There can be no better example or even a role model in the context of staying cool. Yes, only for this reason he is being called 'Captain Cool' in the cricketing world. Let India play against one of the weakest nations like Holland or let India play against the super strong Australia, this man will never show any difference in his cool and composed body language which is a reflection of his mindset. This helps him to stay focussed on the game, take decisions not overwhelmed by emotions. Similarly if you develop the ability of treating any kind of question paper alike, be it the toughest or the easiest with only goal of performing to your fullest ability, you are going to shine.
2. Be Fit
Everyone in the world knows how strong this man is. One of the few batsmen who can still manage a Six with a top edge. Fitness is an essential component in each and every field though the contextual meanings may differ. In case of placement tests filled with puzzles, aptitude questions and whole lot of reasoning questions, the fitness would mean a mental fitness which will arise as a result of constant practice and preparation. Physical fitness is determined by the level of exercise while mental fitness is determined by the level of practice. In short, more the number of practice papers you have written before the actual test, more strong you are.
3. Be Confident But Not Over Enthusiastic
Excitement and over enthusiasm can lead to over confidence which in turn could get you out in Cricket. Have you ever seen Dhoni over enthusiastic or over confident ? Even during the last ball world cup Six, the man had a simple smile as against Yuvi who was screaming at the other end. Also, when chasing targets, Dhoni comes at number 5 or 6, stays cool, pushes ones and twos and explodes only when required. This is what is needed in placement tests too. Take your first few steps carefully. This would translate to starting your placement test with a careful analysis of the difficulty level, a good estimate of cut off and working towards that by focussing on one question at a time, there by getting to your estimated cut off in time without losing focus and concentration.
